A simple mood-tracking tool for research and personal wellbeing

The My Mood (MM) App is a deliberately simple tool for tracking daily mood and emotional wellbeing. Each day, users are prompted to record how they feel, with the option to add a short journal-style reflection. The app also provides a carefully selected set of support resources and links to services relevant in New Zealand and Australia.

Originally developed as the Mood Monitoring Control App (MMCA), My Mood was designed to serve as a baseline comparator in mental health research. Its stripped-back functionality gives researchers a reliable control condition against which to evaluate more feature-rich wellbeing apps, helping isolate the impact of specific features and interventions.

Alongside its research role, My Mood has developed a life of its own with users. Its intuitive design, smooth interface, and support for both light and dark modes make it not only accessible but also enjoyable to use. Many people have come to prefer its clean, distraction-free approach over more complex alternatives, finding it easier to sustain as part of everyday life.

What began as a research control has grown into a stand-alone wellbeing tool, valued for both its practicality and its thoughtful design.
