IDA

IDA (Improving Diagnosis App) is a research prototype developed to explore how digital tools can support clinicians in refining their diagnostic accuracy. The app was funded by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) as part of a proof-of-concept study, designed and built through an innovative collaboration between clinicians and the Kekeno Tech team.

IDA: A proof-of-concept tool for diagnostic feedback in clinical practice

The Improving Diagnosis App (IDA) was conceived to give clinicians regular, structured feedback on the accuracy of their initial diagnostic impressions. Operating within a simulated hospital environment, the app captures a clinician’s preliminary differential diagnoses at patient admission and compares them with the final discharge diagnosis.

This feedback loop helps clinicians reflect on and strengthen their diagnostic reasoning — a process that is often difficult to achieve in busy clinical settings. The project represents a first step toward integrating automated diagnostic feedback into electronic medical records, with potential for future real-world deployment.

The research evaluation of IDA is being led by Dr. Chang-Ho Yoon, Dr. Nic Szecket, Dr. Art Nahill, and Dr. Chester Holt-Quick, with funding support from the RACP.

Our team at Kekeno Tech led the design and development of the app — encompassing the system architecture, backend infrastructure, and user interface design — and worked closely with frontline clinicians to ensure the tool reflected the realities of clinical workflow.
